EMMANUEL AFFUM "BARRISTER" MAKES HISTORY IN THE UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION WINNEBA, AJUMAKO CAMPUS TO BECOME FIRST EVER NATIONAL STUDENT OFFICER OF USAG.

History is made as Mr. Emmanuel Affum, affectionately called "Barrister" becomes the first ever student of the University of Education Winneba, Ajumako Campus to be elected as a national student officer of the University Students' Association of Ghana (USAG). Barrister, on the 30th day of September 2018 was elected into office as the General Secretary of the University Students' Association of Ghana (USAG). Having engaged in a fierce electoral contest with one Mr. Kwesi A. Sarpong, a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST), won the elections at the polls with an overwhelming majority of votes at first pass the vote. He has since become the first student of his university to ever contest and win elections in USAG, therefore, booking his name in the historical archives of the school.

His victory has been welcomed and applauded by the authorities of the University of Education Winneba, Ajumako campus as well as the students leadership of the school. The Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Dr. Charles Owu Ewie, in a speech, congratulated Barrister for the victory and further noted that, he (Barrister) should not only see the victory as his personal glory but also acknowledging that the school has been glorified. He went ahead to share in the success story of the upcoming national politician and also used the opportunity to welcome him into the history books of the university especially the Faculty of Languages where his umbilical cord is tied to. The Presidents of the Students Representative Council (SRC) and the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), H.E Katamani Etsey and H.E Raphael Katayeh Pernarh respectively congratulated their colleague in the students struggle. They were at least happy for being part of the success of Mr. Emmanuel Affum and more that, this history was made in their era of students leadership.

Mr. Emmanuel Affum 'Barrister' is the first (1st) of five (5) children of Mr. Paul Antwi and Mrs. Josephine Antwi. He hails from Breman Kokoso in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa district in the Central region of Ghana. Mr. Emmanuel Affum started his basic education at Breman Kokoso Primary/JHS where he acquired his Basic Education Certificate Examination Certificate in 2008. He later gained admission into the Agona Kwanyako SHS where he studied General Arts. At Agona Kwanyako SHS, his interest in leadership was birthed, leading him to become the President of the Catholic Students Union or PAX ROMANA in 2011/2012. His academic excellence could not be underestimated in his days at Agona Kwanyako SHS. His academic attributes amounted to his success as an outstanding student of Agona Kwanyako SHS which was later to propel him unto a higher academic ladder of university education. He finally gained admission into the University of Education Winneba, Ajumako campus to study a Bachelor's degree in Fante with Linguistics (Ghanaian Language).

In the university, his passion to become a leader grew much stronger each coming and passing day. It was thus not surprising that, his colleague students of the university began to recognize him as a student activist in the true sense of the word activist. He rendered support and stood in defense of the rights of his fellow students of the university. In the year 2017, he received the mandate of the people to serve as a Local NUGS Secretary of the school. His influence and contributions transcended beyond the shores of his campus as he became a name on the lips of many university students of Ghana, especially those who showed interest in the national students political discourse. Barrister, as he has become widely known contested and won elections to become the General Secretary of the University Students' Association of Ghana for the 2018/19 academic year. Having won the elections, he has automatically become the first ever student of the University of Education Winneba, Ajumako campus (UEW-A) to contest and win elections at the national students level of USAG. This is history as far as politics of UEW-A is concerned. As such, the university should see every reason to honor Mr. Emmanuel Affum 'Barrister' a place in the history archives of the university.
